- Ceramic Braces: Ceramic braces are an excellent, less noticeable method of orthodontic treatment. They consist of clear brackets that match the natural color of your teeth with metal wires that loop through them. Though they function similarly to metal braces, they offer a more discreet option.
- Invisalign: Invisalign has become an increasingly popular orthodontic treatment option, made up of a series of clear plastic aligners that slowly move your teeth to the desired position. It is favored among our adult patients because they are practically invisible and more comfortable to wear.
Expectations When Starting Adult Orthodontic Treatment
There is always an adjustment period with anything new. Your orthodontist will thoroughly discuss your treatment and any expectations during the process to ensure that you feel comfortable with every step of your journey towards a straighter smile. For example, with traditional and ceramic braces, your wires may be tightened in order to move your teeth to their proper location. This tightening can sometimes cause mild soreness in the jaw and mouth which will subside in a day or two after your appointment.
Similarly, with Invisalign you will need to change your aligners for a brand new set every two weeks. You may feel a slight pressure on your teeth as you become accustomed to these new aligners. This is a result of your teeth being slowly moved to the proper alignment, resulting in some mild soreness for a day or two.
With all orthodontic treatment, some dietary restrictions and oral hygiene changes are also expected.
