Types of Braces

Quality Service From Your Paris Orthodontist

Our Paris, TN family orthodontist, Dr. Michael McClain, and his friendly team work hard to make sure all our patients achieve their most incredible smiles that are both healthy and attractive! Because we know that every patient we serve has his or her own orthodontic needs and desires, our practice offers several types of braces. Each of these orthodontic appliances serves to improve the aesthetics of your smile in their own way.

Traditional Metal Braces

colorMetal braces are fixed appliances that are bonded to the teeth for the entire treatment process. We use the most advanced form of metal braces which feature a low-profile and natural curvature for a more discreet and comfortable treatment. The smooth finish on the surface of these braces is easier on the lips, gums, and inside of the cheeks for less rubbing and irritation. Metal braces are the least expensive braces we offer, which makes them a popular choice for many of our patients. These braces even allow for some self-expression as patients can choose different colors for the small elastic bands that holds the wire and braces in place. It is important to avoid eating certain types of foods that are hard, sticky, and crunchy as these can damage the braces. Since they are not removable during treatment, braces require more time and care when brushing and flossing as food debris and plaque have many places to hide.

Ceramic Braces

clearCeramic braces are similar to metal braces with the main difference being that the brackets are made of a material that closely resembles the natural color of your teeth. Due to their translucency, ceramic braces are much less noticeable than their metal counterparts, making these braces popular among patients with cosmetic concerns. Ceramic braces do require more attention to oral hygiene as they are more fragile than metal braces and the elastic ties can become discolored; however, these ties are changed at each visit with our Paris, TN orthodontist, so that shouldn’t be a reason not to choose this treatment. Just like metal braces, some foods need to be avoided to protect the braces from any damages. We recommend ceramic braces for treating older teenagers and adults who don’t want to wear highly visible metal braces.

Invisalign

invisalignThe Invisalign System consists of a series of clear, removable aligners that work to gradually move the teeth. Invisalign is a very popular treatment choice among teenagers and adults who want their treatment to be as discreet as possible. The clear aligners are designed to be removed when eating and when brushing and flossing, making Invisalign a very convenient way to achieve a healthy and beautiful smile. With no oral hygiene concerns nor any dietary restrictions to worry about, patients choosing Invisalign can breeze through their treatment confidently and conveniently. Invisalign may be more costly than other types of braces, depending upon how many aligners are needed to move the teeth. If you would like to know if Invisalign is right for you or your teenager, there will be a thorough examination with our Paris, TN family orthodontist during your first visit with us.
