Middle aged couple smiling

When it comes to wanting a straighter and more appealing smile, there is no such thing as "being too old" for braces. Adults are one of the largest growing groups of patients seeking orthodontic treatment. Today, braces are no longer for children and teens. More and more adults want to achieve the smile they've always wanted and now is the time! At McClain Orthodontics, we offer a range of treatments and work with each individual patient to find the best and most effective option for you.

Our Orthodontic Treatment Options

We offer a wide variety of orthodontic treatments to meet the individual needs and desires of each of our adult patients. From traditional braces to a more advanced technological appliance, we are confident we can help you achieve the beautiful, straight smile you've always wanted!

  • Metal Braces: Metal braces are the most traditional type of braces. They remain the most common type of orthodontic treatment; they consist of metal brackets cemented to the front of your teeth and wires connecting each bracket. Metal braces continue to be an effective and reliable orthodontic treatment, they also tend to be the most economical treatment.
  • Ceramic Braces: Ceramic braces are an excellent, less noticeable method of orthodontic treatment. They consist of clear brackets that match the natural color of your teeth with metal wires that loop through them. These braces are similar to their metal counterparts, but due to the bracket's opacity, they are less visible to others.
  • Invisalign: An increasingly popular orthodontic treatment, Invisalign is made up of a series of clear plastic aligners that slowly move your teeth to the desired position. This treatment is typically the favorite for many of our adult patients because they are practically invisible to others and more comfortable to wear.

Expectations When Starting Adult Orthodontic Treatment

As with anything new, there is always an adjustment period that you may need to be accustomed to. Your Paris orthodontist will go over and discuss the expectations during the treatment process to ensure that you feel comfortable at every step of your journey towards a straighter smile. For example, with traditional and ceramic braces, your wires may be tightened in order to move your teeth to their proper location. This tightening can sometimes cause mild soreness in the jaw and mouth which will subside in a day or two after your check-up appointment.

The same situation occurs with Invisalign. Every two weeks, you will need to change your aligners for a brand new set. With every change, you may feel a slight pressure on your teeth as you become accustomed to these new aligners. This is a result of your teeth being slowly moved to its proper alignment, resulting in the same mild soreness for a day or two.

With all orthodontic treatment, dental hygiene changes are also expected. As your leading orthodontist in Paris, TN, we want to ensure that you continue brushing and flossing throughout the treatment process. This means adjusting the way you brush or floss to efficiently remove any plaque and bacteria from your braces. Rinsing your Invisalign aligners will also help keep your teeth free of bacteria.
